IMPHAL, March 19: Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, the General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), carried out a comprehensive inspection of the Jiribam – Khongsang section of the Jiribam – Imphal New Line Project on Tuesday. Spanning 55.36 km, this section is crucial in improving rail connectivity in Manipur, contributing to the larger 110.625 km Jiribam – Imphal railway project.

The section, which began operating regular goods train services to Khongsang in September 2022, plays a vital role in transporting essential commodities. During his visit, Shrivastava reviewed the infrastructure, including tunnels, bridges, tracks, and signaling arrangements, to ensure the safe operation of trains.

The General Manager also engaged with safety staff at various stations and addressed key concerns such as track strengthening, geological challenges like landslides, and security issues. As the project progresses, the Khongsang – Noney (18.25 km) and Noney – Imphal (37.02 km) sections are scheduled to be commissioned in the coming years. Upon completion, the Jiribam – Imphal railway line will significantly enhance connectivity in the region, contributing to economic growth and regional development.
