RAIPUR, Oct 4: Security forces have reportedly killed at least 28 suspected Naxalites in a fierce confrontation in the Abujhmarh forests of Narayanpur district, located in the Bastar division, on Friday. Preliminary information from police indicates that the encounter began around 1 PM near the border between Narayanpur and Dantewada districts.
A joint operation involving District Reserve Guards and Special Task Force members from Dantewada and Narayanpur was initiated based on specific intelligence regarding Naxalite activity in the villages of Govel, Nendur, Thulthuli, Orccha, and Barsur. The clash occurred near Thulthuli village, where security forces engaged the armed Naxals.
All personnel involved in the operation have been reported safe, and police confirmed the recovery of 28 bodies of Naxalites along with various automatic weapons, including AK-47s, SLRs, and explosives from the encounter site. The operation is ongoing, with intermittent skirmishes reported, and additional details are expected soon.
The identities of the deceased Naxals remain unknown, but officials believe that some senior cadres may have been among those killed. Separate teams are searching the forest area for further information.
This operation adds to the successful campaign against Naxalites in the Bastar region, where 185 Naxalites have been killed this year. The Narayanpur area has traditionally served as a significant hideout for Naxals, who have taken advantage of the dense forests for meetings and extended camps.
