SHILLONG, June 20: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the ₹156 crore Additional Secretariat Complex in Dakopgre, Tura, calling it a landmark achievement for the people of Garo Hills. The project aims to bring key government services closer to the region and reduce dependency on Shillong for administrative matters.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma noted the significance of the occasion, describing the complex as more than just a building—it represents the realization of a long-awaited dream for the people. The new facility is expected to streamline access to various state services and improve governance efficiency in western Meghalaya.
The complex will consist of three major structures, including the Chief Minister’s block, which is scheduled for completion by January 21, 2027. This block will house offices for top government officials, including the CM, Cabinet members, and heads of departments.
The Chief Minister also shared progress on other infrastructure projects, including the ₹1800 crore New Secretariat under construction in Shillong. He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing administrative accessibility and modernizing public service infrastructure across the state.
Sangma highlighted that the government has adopted a balanced development approach, with ongoing efforts in building district and block-level offices, police stations, and improving healthcare and education facilities. He acknowledged infrastructure gaps in places like South Garo Hills and assured that systematic plans are in place to address them.
The event also saw the Chief Minister mention mini secretariats being established in Jowai and Pynursla, and the recently sanctioned ₹900 crore Tura bypass project. He emphasized that development would not be limited to major towns but extended to rural and remote areas across all constituencies.
