SENAPATI, Feb 5: The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO), representing the 11 Naga tribes of Chandel district, has called for a 12-hour shutdown and mass rally in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts on February 12. The protest is in response to the construction of the border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR).
The decision was made following a resolution passed in an emergency meeting held on February 3 by the CNPO, Tribe Hohos, NSUC, and NCAC. The protest is intended to express opposition to the border fencing and its negative impact on the local region.
The shutdown will begin at 6 AM and is expected to affect all Naga areas in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts. The CNPO has urged the public to cooperate and participate in the protest. This call follows a similar rally organized by the Konyak Union in Nagaland’s Longwa village.
