IMPHAL, June 6: In a significant move aimed at addressing the prolonged unrest in Manipur, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi convened a high-level meeting on Thursday with party leaders from the violence-hit state.

The closed-door meeting was held at the new All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters at Indira Bhavan in New Delhi. According to party sources, the deliberations included key figures such as Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, Manipur in-charge Saptagiri Ulaka, and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra Singh, among other senior leaders.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account following the meeting, K.C. Venugopal expressed deep concern over the situation in Manipur. “Manipur has been under the grip of a devastating civil war for the last two years. It requires a political solution to bring back normalcy at the earliest,” he stated.

The Congress party has repeatedly criticized the Centre’s handling of the crisis and has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally visit Manipur and engage with those affected by the violence. The party believes that a direct intervention by the Prime Minister could play a crucial role in fostering dialogue, healing community wounds, and restoring peace in the region.
