Imphal, September 22: The Congress Party on Monday launched its nationwide campaign, “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod”, in Manipur with sharp criticism of the BJP-led government. The program was formally unveiled at Heingang Mayai Leikai, Imphal, by AICC Secretary for Manipur, Christopher Tilak.
Speaking at Congress Bhavan, Tilak accused the BJP of “undermining democracy and betraying the people of Manipur,” terming the present dispensation as “Manipur Chori by BJP.” He raised questions over governance, citing the recent bandh called by underground groups, and remarked that even the Governor appeared to be under external influence.
The AICC leader alleged that four years of BJP rule had left Manipur “constitutionally messed up, economically devastated, socially bifurcated, and politically reduced to a national issue.” He also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to visit the strife-torn state and for not taking steps to rehabilitate displaced families, accusing the government instead of “sowing division and chaos.”
The launch event was attended by key Congress leaders, including MPCC President K. Meghachandra Singh, CLP Leader O. Ibobi Singh, CWC Member Gaikhangam, and former MP Th. Meinya. All leaders echoed Tilak’s call for unity, pledging to intensify the campaign against what they described as BJP’s “destructive politics.”
