Congress Slams Amit Shah’s Claims of Peace in J&K and Northeast as “Bizarre”

NEW DELHI, June 10: The Congress party on Tuesday strongly criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent assertions that peace has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast, calling the claims “bizarre” and accusing him of diverting attention from his “colossal failures.”

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh launched a sharp attack on Shah, highlighting ongoing unrest and unresolved terror cases. He pointed to the failure to bring the perpetrators of the April 22, 2025, terror attacks in Pahalgam to justice, noting that the same terrorists were reportedly involved in earlier attacks in Poonch, Gagangir, and Gulmarg.

“Manipur continues to burn,” Ramesh said, criticizing the delayed and ineffective imposition of President’s Rule in the state. He described the law and order situation as “perilous” and emphasized the frustration and anger among the people due to deteriorating living conditions.

“Never has India had a Union Home Minister whose tenure has been one of Maximum Boasts, Minimum Achievements — unless what he has been able to do for his son can count for that,” Ramesh wrote on X.

He also took aim at Shah’s silence on a direct, unscripted press conference, challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to engage with the media transparently on completing 11 years in office.

The Congress remarks come in response to Shah’s recent statement praising the Modi government’s efforts, claiming Naxalism was on its last legs and India had responded more assertively to terrorism.
