Imphal, October 8: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) National President Conrad K. Sangma is scheduled to visit Manipur on October 9 for a two-day trip, amid heightened political uncertainty and internal tensions within the party’s state unit.
According to party leaders, Sangma’s visit will focus on reviewing the prevailing political climate in Manipur, which has been under President’s Rule since February 2025 following the resignation of former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The move comes as the NPP seeks to reaffirm its influence and unity amid shifting political dynamics in the conflict-hit state.
During his visit, Sangma is expected to hold discussions with NPP functionaries, community leaders, and representatives of civil society organisations from both the Meitei and Kuki communities. He will also visit several relief camps to meet displaced families affected by the ongoing ethnic violence.
However, the trip comes at a time of internal unease within the NPP’s Manipur unit. State Party President Yumnam Joykumar Singh recently disclosed that one NPP MLA had joined the BJP MLAs’ camp in Delhi without the party’s authorisation, terming the move “unauthorised and not representative of the party’s stance.”
