CHANDEL, Nov 8: The District Health Society, Chandel, has expressed its sincere gratitude to the Director, Directorate of Health Services Manipur, State Mission Director, National Health Mission Manipur, and the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), NHM Manipur, for successfully conducting free cataract and pterygium surgeries on 10 patients from Chandel district. The surgeries were performed on November 7 at the State Ophthalmic Cell in Imphal under the able guidance of Dr. Vikram Singh Khoisnam, State Nodal Officer of NPCB&VI.
The patients were detected with cataract and pterygium during a Free Eye Camp held on October 27 at District Hospital Chandel, where over 250 people received free eye check-ups, spectacles, and medicines. The camp was part of the State-level ‘World Sight Day 2025’ observation with the theme ‘Love your Eyes’, jointly organized by NPCB&VI, State Health Society NHM Manipur, Directorate of Health Services Manipur, and District Health Society Chandel. During the camp, the detected patients were assured of free surgery, which was successfully conducted at the State Ophthalmic Cell in Imphal.
According to Dr. Joyson Mathew Monsang, Chief Medical Officer/Mission Director, District Health Society, Chandel, the successful surgeries were a result of the collaborative efforts of all involved. The district administration and health officials have expressed their appreciation for the support provided by the state health authorities in delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Chandel district.
