IMPHAL, May 9: In a landmark development, Dr. Ahanthem Santa Singh from Manipur has become the first individual from the northeastern state to simultaneously hold the post of Executive Director at two prestigious All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) located in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Currently serving as the Executive Director of AIIMS Mangalagiri, Prof. Dr. Santa has now been given the additional responsibility of Executive Director at AIIMS Bibinagar. The appointment was made by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. He officially assumed charge of the new post on Thursday.
A distinguished academician and experienced healthcare administrator, Prof. Dr. Santa has had a remarkable career spanning several decades. He is a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology with extensive expertise in maternal health, reproductive medicine, and gynecological surgery.
Before joining AIIMS Mangalagiri, Dr. Santa served as the Director of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in the institution’s growth and contributed to the overall advancement of regional healthcare. Under his leadership, RIMS Imphal was ranked 38th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development for 2019-20. It was the only medical institute from the entire Northeast and West Bengal to feature among the top 40 medical institutions and universities in the country.
Dr. Santa also held prominent academic and administrative positions at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong. There, he significantly contributed to the development of tertiary care services and postgraduate medical education.
Renowned for his leadership in medical education, healthcare policy, and institutional governance, Prof. Dr. Santa’s new dual role is expected to enhance the development of AIIMS Bibinagar and further align both institutions with the strategic objectives of the AIIMS network and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
