New Delhi, August 26: The Ministry of Education on Tuesday announced the selection of 45 teachers from universities, colleges, and polytechnics across India for the prestigious National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2025.
Traditionally conferred upon school teachers, the awards were extended in 2023 to cover higher education faculty in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The initiative aims to recognise outstanding contributions by teachers in shaping academic excellence and fostering innovation in higher education.
Altogether, seven teachers from northeast have been selected for the prestigious award.
According to the Department of Higher Education, the awardees were selected through a rigorous two-stage evaluation process. Candidates were first screened and shortlisted by a preliminary committee before final recommendations were made by a national jury.
The selection criteria placed maximum weight on teaching effectiveness and outreach, along with research, innovation, and service to the community.
Nominations were invited online through the government’s awards portal, allowing for self, institutional, and peer nominations as part of the Jan Bhagidari (public participation) approach.
Officials said the 45 awardees represent a diverse mix of state universities, central institutions, and polytechnics, reflecting the government’s commitment to honouring excellence across India’s higher education landscape.
