Senapati, August 6: In a tragic incident on Monday, three buffaloes were electrocuted in the vicinity of Koide Biisho, highlighting a significant safety concern regarding the proximity of high-tension (HT) power lines to livestock and local residents. The HT line is located alarmingly close—within a stone’s throw from Maram-Koide IVR which is the bloodline for many villages of Poumai Naga Tribe with more than 100 vehicles commuting daily. This busy traffic raise urgent questions about safety regulations and adherence to infrastructure standards.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud zap followed by the distressing sight of the animals collapsing. Local residents voiced their frustration and concern, noting that the electric wires have posed a danger not only to livestock but also to the community at large. “The line is so close to our village that we often worry about the safety of our children and animals,” said K P Canaan, a local resident. “This incident is a wake-up call. We need immediate action from the authorities.”
The incident has sparked outrage within the community, prompting calls for the concerned department to take swift action before further tragedies occur. Residents fear that continued negligence regarding the positioning of high-tension wires could result in irreplaceable casualties, both human and animal.

Community leaders are urging the department to engage in prompt corrective actions, which may include relocating the power lines, reinforcing safety barriers, and implementing routine safety inspections. “We cannot afford to take this lightly,” emphasized C K Livingstone, the president of Koide Youth & Students’ Organisation. “The safety of our community depends on action taken today.”
As residents await a response from the authorities, the community is rallying together, discussing the importance of preventive measures and better urban planning to ensure the safety of all. The loss of these three buffaloes serves as a tragic reminder of the potential consequences of infrastructure neglect, and the community is determined not to let their memory fade without prompting necessary change.
This incident has brought to light the pressing need for improved electrical infrastructure safety protocols, ensuring that both people and animals can coexist safely in their environment. Community members are hopeful that swift action will be taken to prevent any future incidents, ensuring that their village remains a safe place to live and work.
