Imphal, July 28: Security forces have arrested five militants associated with three banned insurgent outfits in separate counter-insurgency operations carried out in Manipur’s Imphal East and Thoubal districts, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to the police, three active cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba City Meitei) were apprehended on Sunday, July 27, from Imphal East district. Two of them were intercepted at Huidrom village while reportedly en route to a brick kiln to collect extortion money. Following their interrogation, a third cadre was later arrested from Kairang Maning Leikai based on information disclosed during questioning.

In a separate operation conducted in Thoubal district, an active member of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (SOREPA) was taken into custody.
Additionally, a cadre of the proscribed KCP (MFL) was arrested from his residence in Eshingthembi Mapan, Imphal East.
All five individuals have been detained for further investigation. Police said the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb extortion and militancy in the state.
