Imphal, July 22: A gunfight between two newly formed Chin-Kuki militant groups left five cadres dead early Tuesday morning at Deiveijang village under Khoupum police station in Tamenglong district, Manipur.
According to sources, the clash broke out between the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) and the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA) — both of which are not signatories to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Government of India. These outfits, comprising armed elements from the Chin-Kuki community, are known to operate across Manipur’s hill districts and along the Indo-Myanmar border.
The five slain militants were identified as Alex, Seiboi, Pongba, Ringo, and Rambo. However, security agencies have not yet confirmed the exact group affiliations of the deceased, as investigations are still underway.
Security forces have intensified surveillance in the area following today’s incident, though no official statement has been issued by state police or central forces regarding the operation or its aftermath.
