IMPHAL, Feb 17: Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has found himself at the center of a new controversy as his former close aide and ex-president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Manipur, Monoharmayum Barish Sharma, publicly accused him of being the primary cause of the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
In a viral video shared on social media, Barish Sharma stated that he was the first village defender to be arrested and revealed that he had carried out numerous tasks under the direct orders of the former Chief Minister. During a confrontation with a group of Meira Paibi women at his residence in Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, he emphatically shouted, “Biren destroyed Manipur.”
The incident took place around noon when a group of Meira Paibi, reportedly from Kumbi in Bishnupur district, gathered outside his home. The group of women was allegedly upset by a recent social media post from Barish Sharma, in which he claimed that the sit-in protest on February 12 had been staged, with participants being paid Rs. 500 each.
One of the protesting Meira Paibi members expressed deep shock and hurt over Barish Sharma’s comments, intensifying the already tense atmosphere in the state. The situation remains fraught with political and social tensions as allegations and accusations continue to escalate in Manipur.
