NEW DELHI, Feb 22: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Shaktikanta Das, has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an official statement. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment on Saturday.
Das, a retired IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, will now hold the key position alongside the current Principal Secretary to the PM, Dr. P.K. Mishra. His appointment is effective from the date he assumes office and will continue either until the end of the Prime Minister’s term or until further orders are issued.
Das brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served as the Union Revenue Secretary and the Economic Affairs Secretary. Additionally, he was India’s Sherpa to the G20 from November 2017 to December 2018. In December 2018, Das was appointed as the 25th Governor of the RBI, a position he held until December 2024 when he handed over the role to former Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990 Rajasthan-cadre IAS officer.
