Four Arrested in Manipur for Militant Links and Extortion Activities

Imphal, October 6: In a series of coordinated operations, Security Forces and Manipur Police have arrested four individuals involved in extortion and militant-related activities across Imphal West and Bishnupur districts. The arrests were made between October 4 and 5, 2025, as part of an ongoing crackdown on insurgency and criminal networks in the region.

On October 5, an active cadre of the proscribed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), identified as Rajkumar Sanathoi Singh (18), was apprehended from his residence in Naoremthong Laishram Leirak, Imphal West district. Security personnel recovered a .32 pistol with a magazine and a mobile handset from Singh. Authorities allege that he was involved in extorting money from shops, businesses, and civilians across the valley area.

A day earlier, on October 4, a team of Security Forces arrested a self-styled Lieutenant of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), identified as Khangembam Manglemba Singh alias Sunny (46), from Ningthoukhong Ward No. 2 in Bishnupur district. Singh, a resident of Kumbi Thana Leikai, was allegedly monitoring the movements of security personnel and passing on sensitive information to his militant group. A mobile phone and SIM card were recovered during the operation.

In a separate incident on October 5, Manipur Police apprehended two individuals for extorting money from vehicles along National Highway-02 near Keinou Bazar, under the jurisdiction of Bishnupur Police Station. The suspects, identified as Sarangthem Dinesh Singh (29) of Nambol Oinam Awang Leikai Ward No. 2 and Khundrakpam Mohen Singh (25) of Keinou Thongthak Mongkhang Leikai, were found in possession of a two-wheeler, a mobile phone, and a SIM card.

Authorities say the operations were carried out based on specific intelligence inputs and are part of sustained efforts to curb militant activity and ensure public safety in the region.

All four individuals are currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway.
