IMPHAL, Nov 28: Four Assam Rifles personnel were injured after armed militants ambushed a border post along the Indo-Myanmar frontier in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district early Friday morning, triggering heightened security operations in the sensitive region.
The attack took place around 4:30 am near border pillar numbers 85 and 86, close to Saibol and Maringthel villages, when militants hurled bombs and opened heavy fire on Assam Rifles troops deployed in the area. The encounter lasted for nearly 30 minutes.
“The militants suddenly ambushed a group of Assam Rifles personnel near the border pillars in the Saibol–Maringthel area,” an official said.
All four injured jawans were immediately evacuated for medical treatment.
According to initial reports, the attackers fled across the porous international border into Myanmar as additional security teams moved in to reinforce the area. The region, which lies along the unfenced Indo-Myanmar border, has been a frequent corridor for insurgent movement and cross-border attacks.
Following the incident, security forces have tightened vigil across the border belt, and joint combing operations have been launched to track the militants involved in the ambush.
This is a developing story. More details awaited.
