BRASILIA, Nov 19: G20 leaders have adopted the Rio de Janeiro Declaration at the 19th Summit held in the Brazilian city, calling for urgent action on critical issues such as climate change and the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. The declaration, released last night, aims to tackle major global challenges and crises, while promoting strong, sustainable, and inclusive growth.
Among its key points, the declaration advocates for an enlarged composition of the United Nations Security Council to enhance the representation of underrepresented and unrepresented regions and groups. It unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, expressing deep concern about the situation in the Gaza Strip and the escalating tensions in Lebanon. The leaders emphasized the urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian assistance and to reinforce the protection of civilians in these conflict-affected areas.
Additionally, the declaration called for the peaceful resolution of conflicts, urging efforts to address crises through diplomacy and dialogue. It reaffirmed the G20’s strong commitment to multilateralism, particularly in light of the progress made under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement.
