Gaurav Gogoi Slams Assam CM: ‘Acts Like a King, Treats People as Second-Class Citizens’

Guwahati, August 19: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has launched a sharp political attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of acting like a “king” and treating the people of the state as “second-class citizens.” His remarks come amid escalating political sparring between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress as Assam braces for upcoming elections.

Addressing reporters, Gogoi alleged that Sarma was more concerned with projecting power than serving the people. Drawing a comparison with his late father, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, he said, “Tarun Gogoi was CM for 15 years, but he never considered himself all-powerful. He always worked for the people.” Gogoi argued that Sarma’s governance style was marked by arrogance and a disconnect from the masses, portraying himself as an “upper class leader.”

“We in the Congress will always stand with the people. Even if it means being treated as second-class citizens, we are proud to be with them,” he said, underscoring his party’s stand as a counterpoint to the BJP’s leadership.
