GUWAHATI, June 14: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi has written to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging a swift and transparent investigation into the mysterious death of Rosmita Hojai, a young woman from Dima Hasao district whose body was discovered on the banks of the river Ganga in Rishikesh.
According to reports, Rosmita had travelled to Delhi to appear for a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination. Following her exam, she was accompanied by two individuals to Rishikesh, where she was later reported missing on June 6. After five days of intense search efforts, her body was recovered from the Ganga river, raising alarm and concern among her family, friends, and the larger community.
In his letter, Gogoi stated, “The circumstances surrounding her disappearance and subsequent death are deeply troubling and have raised serious concerns. It is imperative that all aspects of the case are investigated, and those responsible, if any, are brought to justice at the earliest possible.”
Calling for immediate intervention, Gogoi appealed to CM Dhami to ensure a “swift, transparent, and thorough enquiry”, highlighting the need to safeguard individuals travelling for educational and professional opportunities across states.
The Congress leader further requested that the Uttarakhand Chief Minister personally monitor the case and direct the concerned authorities to expedite the investigation process so that justice can be served to Rosmita and her grieving family.
The demand for justice was echoed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also addressed the matter in a letter to CM Dhami. CM Sarma requested that the case be investigated “in a comprehensive and time-bound manner, examining all possible angles”, and stressed that if criminal involvement is established, “the responsible individuals be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
