SENAPATI, Feb 3: The historic legacy of General Thangal, a revered freedom fighter and patriot, will once again be celebrated through the 2nd General Thangal Memorial Open Football Tournament 2025. Scheduled to take place from 10 to 31 March at the Mayangkhang Play Ground, the tournament aims to uphold the values of discipline, honor, and glory that General Thangal himself embodied.

Organized by the Thangal Anleinao Jonlong (Thangal Students’ Union), this prestigious tournament is more than just a football competition—it is a tribute to a warrior who stood firm against colonial rule. By bringing together young football talents, the event seeks to inspire future generations with General Thangal’s spirit of resilience and leadership.

The stakes are high, with the champion team set to receive ₹1,50,000 along with a trophy, while the first runner-up will be awarded ₹75,000 and a trophy. Individual excellence will also be recognized through awards such as the Golden Ball (best player), Golden Boot (top scorer), Golden Glove (best goalkeeper), and Best Discipline Team.
