Kohima, October 22 (NNN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF) strongly condemned what it called “the cowardly and inhumane drone strike” carried out on the evening of October 20, 2025 at around 6:30 p.m. Indian time (7:30 p.m. Myanmar time) by the Indian armed forces across the “so-called international boundary”, targeting the Naga village of Khammoi (Khenmoi-Loiyi) under East Konyak Region.
The GNF said this “brutal and unprovoked” attack killed two innocent Naga civilians- Phiphot Wangsa, 7 years old grade-1 student of Khammoi Mission School and Khampei Wangsa, 27, joint secretary of the Khammoi Students’ Union. The GNF also alleged that several others, including children, elderly women, and men, all innocent non combatants, were also injured in the strike. “This constitutes a gross violation of human rights and international humanitarian law. This is the second Indian drone strike on a Naga village this year, clearly showing a deliberate pattern of targeting Naga civilians beyond the imposed boundary”, the GNF added.
The GNF then said this attack took place not deep inside Burmese territory like Yangon or Mandalay, but on Naga ancestral land, where the Naga people have lived long before artificial international boundaries were drawn. “Equally alarming is the deafening silence of the Government of Myanmar, which should have strongly objected to such a violation of its sovereignty if the Indian Army had launched an attack anywhere else in Myanmar”, it added. “Its silence reveals a harsh truth that because we are Nagas and not ethnic Burmese, our lives are treated with indifference”.
The GNF then said this latest assault follows the September 27, 2017 cross-border attack by the Indian Army inside Naga areas of Myanmar, reinforcing a pattern of impunity and disregard for Naga lives. In light of this grave incident, the Global Naga Forum urgently called upon the United Nations and relevant international human rights mechanisms to take immediate cognizance of this drone strike and the broader pattern of military aggression, and hold the Government of India accountable for violating international law. It also called upon the Government of Myanmar to break its silence and take a principled stand on this violation of its territorial integrity and the killing of civilians on its soil. Naga lives matter. It further called upon human rights defenders, democratic governments, and civil society to support an independent international investigation into the 20 October drone strike and other cross-border violations. The GNF also called upon the Government of India to end military aggression against civilians and respect the inherent rights, dignity, and existence of the Naga people.
The Global Naga Forum then extended its “deepest” condolences to the bereaved family members and stands in deep solidarity with the families of Phiphot Wangsa and Khampei Wangsa, the injured, and the entire Khammoi village community. “We denounce this unjustifiable act of state violence and demand truth, accountability, and justice” it added.
