IMPHAL, Feb 3: The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, today launched the ‘Addiction Free Manipur Campaign’ at Raj Bhavan in Imphal, aiming to tackle the growing problem of substance abuse across the state.
Organized by Brahma Kumaris in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) – a flagship program of the Ministry – the campaign focuses on raising awareness, mobilizing the community, and reaching vulnerable groups to curb addiction.
In his address during the campaign launch at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Governor Bhalla emphasized that drug abuse and addiction are significant challenges that require community participation and cooperation between government and non-governmental organizations. He also noted that under NMBA, plans have been put in place to reduce drug abuse nationwide, covering 372 districts across India.
The Governor stressed that prevention through awareness campaigns is crucial to effectively addressing the issue. He commended the Brahma Kumaris for their efforts in promoting a drug-free India and urged citizens, especially the youth, to support the movement, contributing towards the goal of achieving a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.
Prominent figures such as Dr. Banarsilal Shah, Secretary of the Medical Wing at Mt. Abu, Rajasthan; Dr. Swapan Gupta, Associate Professor of Neurology at GB Pant Institute, New Delhi; Prof. RK Lenin Singh, President of the Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch; and BK Nilima, In-charge of Brahma Kumaris in Manipur, were among those present at the launch event.
