Green Land College of Nursing Observes International Nurses Day

SENAPATI, May 12: The Green Land College of Nursing, Senapati, observed International Nurses Day on May 12, aligning with the global celebration held annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. The event was celebrated under the International Council of Nurses (ICN) theme for 2025: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for Nurses strengthens economies.”

The college hosted the event to mark and honour the significance of the day and the invaluable role played by nurses in the healthcare sector. The programme was graced by the Director of the college, Mrs. D. Mercy Chiru, as the Chief Guest, and Principal Dr. Lalneikim as the Guest of Honour. The programme was led by Ms. Sanwiliu Chawang, Nursing Tutor.

The observance began with an opening prayer by Ms. S. Kateni, Nursing Tutor, followed by a special song presented by Ms. Cyndy Kipgen, a 6th Semester B.Sc Nursing student. In her address, Chief Guest Mrs. Chiru emphasized the essential role nurses play in society and extended her heartfelt greetings to all nursing professionals.

A key highlight of the programme was a presentation by Ms. L. Thone, Nursing Tutor, who elaborated on the theme. She underscored the importance of prioritizing the health and wellbeing of nurses, stating that a robust and healthy nursing workforce is fundamental to achieving improved health outcomes globally. She further stressed the need to address various challenges faced by nurses — physically, mentally, and ethically — and advocated for promoting their overall wellbeing. “By imploring the audience to commit to creating an environment where nurses feel valued, protected and empowered, we not only honour their dedication but also pave the way for healthier societies and sustainable economic growth,” she stated.

The students of the college also presented a drama performance incorporating the core message of this year’s Nurses Day theme, highlighting the dedication and challenges of the nursing profession.

The event concluded with a closing prayer led by Mrs. Donna Thangal, Assistant Professor, followed by a heavy refreshment.
