Statewide Impact and IMD Red Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for five northeastern states, including Manipur, forecasting continued heavy rainfall. According to the Meteorological Centre in Imphal, Senapati recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 154.2 mm on Saturday, a steep jump from Friday’s 52.1 mm. Other affected districts include:

  • Ukhrul: 76.2 mm (Friday: 83.5 mm)
  • Tamenglong: 62.1 mm
  • Imphal: 36.4 mm

Meanwhile, Imphal West district, where the state capital is located, received a record 197.8 mm of rain on Friday alone, leading to flash floods in several low-lying areas.

Rivers such as the Nambul, Iril, and Nambol are flowing at warning levels, raising fears of further flooding if the rains persist.
