Guwahati, Sept 3: Assam Police achieved a major breakthrough in the fight against inter-state drug trafficking with the seizure of heroin worth ₹8 crore in Kamrup district. Two individuals from Manipur’s Churachandpur district were arrested in connection with the case.
On September 1, police intercepted a red Hyundai i10 (registration number MN 01-AW-2641) at Amingaon, suspected of transporting narcotics from Churachandpur to Lower Assam. During a thorough search, officers recovered 74 soap boxes containing heroin, weighing approximately 910 grams (excluding packaging). The contraband had been cleverly hidden inside the car’s door panels and rear compartment.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gogou Suantak (33), son of Thangneinak Suantak of Sheiphei village, and Seilun Vaiphei (39), son of Thangkho Vaiphei of Makhao village — both hailing from Churachandpur district.
Police estimate the seized narcotics to be worth ₹8 crore in the international market. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation was led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Kamrup, and is being hailed as a significant success in the state’s ongoing crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling networks.
