NEW DELHI, Feb 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah lauded the youths of Manipur for winning the most prizes at the five-day Unity Utsav, organized by Assam Rifles, during the concluding function of the event held on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, Shah highlighted the significant role of sports in the Northeast and mentioned that, in light of the region’s passion for sports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to establish the country’s first sports university in Manipur.
Shah further emphasized the importance of the Northeast in the nation’s development, noting its immense diversity. “The region is home to more than 220 ethnic groups, over 160 tribes, and more than 200 dialects and languages. It celebrates over 50 unique festivals, performs more than 30 traditional dances, and offers more than 100 different cuisines,” he said.
The first-ever Unity Utsav, a five-day festival showcasing the rich cultural heritage and sportsmanship of Northeast India, successfully concluded at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi. The event was organized by Assam Rifles in collaboration with the North East Association for Social Welfare and brought together the vibrant traditions of the region under the theme ‘One Voice, One Nation.’
