Imphal, August 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for a prolonged spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next seven days in several parts of the country, including the Northeast, eastern India, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
According to the IMD, isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh could witness extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 21 cm on August 8, with continuous wet conditions posing a high risk of floods and landslides. States such as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive intense showers on August 8 and 9, while Assam and Meghalaya may be hit again with heavy rainfall on August 12 and 13.


In northern India, the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience scattered heavy rainfall from August 7 to 13, with intensity set to increase later in the week. A new spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast to begin over these states and parts of Uttar Pradesh from August 10.
Other regions on alert include sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 7 and 11, and Bihar and Tamil Nadu on August 8. In contrast, central India and Rajasthan are expected to see subdued rainfall over the next four to five days.
In the past 24 hours, Tripura recorded extremely heavy rainfall (over 21 cm), while parts of Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh experienced very heavy showers between 7 to 20 cm. Heavy rainfall was also recorded in areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand, Telangana, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
