IMPHAL, June 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across multiple states, including parts of the Northeast, as the southwest monsoon continues to advance into northern regions of the country.
States expected to experience intense rainfall activity on Monday include Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, and West Madhya Pradesh. The IMD attributed the increased rainfall to the progressing monsoon system.
The forecast also includes heavy rainfall at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Kerala, and the Mahe region.
In its latest update, the weather agency warned that light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, is expected to continue over Northwest India until June 26. These weather patterns may lead to localised waterlogging and disruptions in low-lying areas.
The IMD confirmed that the southwest monsoon has further advanced over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, some regions of Punjab, and the entire Union Territory of Ladakh. This marks a significant seasonal progression that typically brings widespread showers and cooler temperatures to large parts of India.
