SENAPATI, June 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for multiple northeastern states, as active monsoon conditions continue to impact the region. The alert is in effect till July 5, covering Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Sikkim and parts of West Bengal are also included in the forecast, with the possibility of localized downpours, thunderstorms, and lightning.
The weather department warns that isolated areas may witness intense rainfall episodes, which could lead to localized flooding, landslides, and transport disruptions.
Between July 2 and 5, the IMD anticipates light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, along with isolated heavy to very heavy showers in the Northeast region.
This widespread rain activity comes as the Southwest Monsoon has now covered the entire country, advancing across India nine days ahead of its usual schedule. The early onset has intensified rainfall in many regions, with similar weather patterns reported in East, Central, and Northwest India.
