IMD Predicts Rain, Thunderstorms, and Gusty Winds in Northeast India Over Next Five Days

IMPHAL, March 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Northeast India from March 11 to March 15, warning residents of potential weather disruptions. A yellow alert has been issued for several states in the region, urging people to stay updated on the evolving conditions.

The forecast is driven by two active troughs influencing the region’s weather patterns. One trough extends along longitude 93°E to the north of latitude 23°N at lower tropospheric levels, while another runs along longitude 82°E to the north of latitude 23°N at middle tropospheric levels.

Arunachal Pradesh is expected to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, from March 11 to March 15. The state is also likely to see isolated heavy rain from March 11 to March 17, with very heavy rain anticipated on March 13.

In Assam and Meghalaya, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds (30-50 km/h) are forecasted from March 11 to March 15.

For Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, the conditions of scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and winds (30-40 km/h) are expected to persist from March 11 through March 16.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati also issued a five-day weather forecast for the city, indicating generally cloudy skies, varying temperatures, and intermittent rain.
