IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Across Northeast in Next 24 Hours

Imphal, August 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh advisory forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall across several northeastern states over the next 24 hours.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, most parts of Meghalaya are likely to witness moderate rain, while many areas in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura are also expected to receive significant showers. Light to moderate rainfall is predicted in Mizoram.

The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may lash isolated areas of Assam, while similar conditions are likely in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura. The department cautioned that intense showers could trigger localised flooding and disrupt transportation.
