BEIJING, March 26: On Tuesday, the 33rd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) was held in Beijing, with Indian delegation led by Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary for East Asia, and the Chinese delegation headed by Hong Liang, Director General of the Boundary & Oceanic Affairs Department at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting, conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere, focused on reviewing the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas. Both sides acknowledged the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility along the border, which is considered vital for the broader development of bilateral relations.
Discussions during the meeting also revolved around implementing decisions made at the 23rd meeting of the Special Representatives (SR) on the India-China boundary issue, held in Beijing in December 2024. Several measures and proposals were explored to improve border management and enhance diplomatic and military coordination between the two nations.
The meeting also addressed the resumption of cross-border cooperation, particularly concerning trans-border rivers and the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra. Both sides emphasized the significance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges, underlining the importance of mutual understanding and collaboration between the two countries.
Looking ahead, both sides agreed to prepare comprehensively for the upcoming meeting of the Special Representatives, scheduled to take place in India later this year. This continued dialogue reflects India and China’s shared commitment to resolving border issues and ensuring stability in the region.
