India Declares 3-Day State Mourning in Honour of Pope Francis

SHILLONG, April 22: As a mark of respect to His Holiness Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Holy See, the Government of India has declared a three-day State Mourning.

Pope Francis passed away at around 11 AM on Monday morning at the age of 88 years.

In an official communication to the Chief Secretaries of all state governments and Administrators of Union Territories, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that two days of State Mourning will be observed on April 22 and 23. The third day of mourning will coincide with the day of the funeral, the date of which is yet to be announced.

During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across the country on all buildings where it is regularly hoisted. Additionally, there will be no official entertainment during the mourning period.
