India Hits Out at Pakistan Over Kashmir Remarks at Geneva Meet

GENEVA, Feb 27: India has strongly criticized Pakistan for its remarks about Kashmir during the seventh meeting of the 58th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, dismissing all allegations of suppressing democracy and human rights in Jammu and Kashmir. Kshitij Tyagi, representing India’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, condemned Pakistan’s continued spread of false narratives, accusing the country’s military-terrorist complex of propagating misleading claims.

India’s envoy sharply criticized Pakistan, emphasizing that the country is rife with human rights abuses and lacks the credibility to lecture others. Tyagi reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, will always remain an integral part of India, highlighting the significant progress made in these regions in recent years. “The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. The remarkable progress in J&K in recent years is a testament to the people’s trust in the government’s commitment to restoring normalcy in a region long affected by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” Tyagi said.

He also accused Pakistan of misusing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as a mouthpiece to promote baseless narratives, dictated by its military-terrorist complex. “It is unfortunate that this Council’s time continues to be wasted by a failed state which thrives on instability and survives on international handouts,” Tyagi remarked.

Tyagi added that Pakistan needs to move beyond its unhealthy obsession with India and focus on addressing the issues affecting its own citizens. He concluded by reaffirming India’s focus on democracy, progress, and ensuring dignity for its people, values that Pakistan would do well to learn from.

Tyagi’s comments followed India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, who, on February 19, reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is and will always remain an integral part of India, while strongly condemning Pakistan’s misinformation campaigns.
