NEW DELHI, May 7: In a strong retaliatory move following the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Armed Forces on Wednesday launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, striking nine terrorist camps located across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The strikes were carried out in the early hours of the morning, between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM, targeting key terror infrastructure linked to recent attacks on Indian civilians.
The precision strikes, according to a statement from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), were focused, measured, and specifically aimed at terrorist facilities. The Indian military emphasized that the operation deliberately avoided Pakistani military and civilian installations to prevent escalation.
“India has shown significant restraint both in the selection of targets and the method of execution,” the statement noted. The operation was launched to bring justice to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali citizen.

During a official press briefing in New Delhi on Wednesday morning, Colonel Sofia Qureshi of the Indian Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force detailed the operation’s objectives and execution. They stated that for over three decades, Pakistan has been actively involved in constructing and supporting terror infrastructure, including recruitment centres, indoctrination camps, training areas, and launch pads that span both Pakistan and PoJK.
The military officials confirmed the destruction of all nine targeted terrorist sites and reiterated that the operation was executed without causing harm to civilian or military establishments.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also addressed the media, stating that investigations into the Pahalgam attack revealed direct links between the perpetrators and Pakistan-based terror groups. He emphasized that Indian intelligence agencies had intercepted credible information suggesting potential further attacks, making a preemptive and decisive response critical.
Misri highlighted the horror of the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where terrorists reportedly shot tourists in the head in front of their families. The attack was claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
“This is the most serious incident since the 2008 Mumbai attack, considering that the civilians were attacked,” Misri stated. He added that the operation was aimed at ensuring that the planners and perpetrators of such a heinous act are held accountable.
The Foreign Secretary further disclosed that Pakistan had attempted to exert pressure to remove references to the Resistance Front from the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) media release, signaling Islamabad’s continued efforts to shield terror proxies from international scrutiny.
