India Showcases Northeast as Frontier of Opportunity in Japan

Tokyo, October 24: India’s Charge d’Affaires in Japan, R. Madhu Sudan, on Friday described India’s North-East region as a “frontier of opportunity” with immense potential to emerge as a hub for connectivity, creativity, and commerce.

Speaking at an event titled “Exploring the Potential of Northeast India: Harmonizing Cultural Diversity and Socioeconomic Development” organised by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, the diplomat said the region could serve as a model for sustainable, inclusive, and culturally rooted development partnerships between India and Japan.

The Indian Embassy in Japan, in a statement on X, said Sudan’s keynote address underlined the strategic and developmental importance of the Northeast, positioning it as a bridge for enhanced economic and cultural cooperation between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, the embassy shared glimpses of Diwali celebrations at Nagasaki University, where students and faculty came together to mark the Festival of Lights. In a video message, Sudan highlighted the growing friendship and cultural exchanges between India and Japan, calling the celebrations a “beautiful reflection of India–Japan friendship and cultural harmony.”

Similar Diwali celebrations were also held at Kagawa University, where a video message from the Indian envoy was screened. The event featured rangolis, traditional sweets, and cultural performances, showcasing the vibrant diversity and shared values between the two nations.

Meanwhile, Sudan also held a video conference with Isabela Silk, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Marshall Islands, to discuss avenues of collaboration in various sectors, including development projects and trade partnerships.
