IMPHAL, March 10: In a major counter-insurgency operation, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles successfully destroyed six bunkers and twelve shelter camps established by the banned United Kuki National Army (UKNA) on the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
The operation, which took place in the dense forests surrounding Songphu and Henglep villages, resulted in the recovery of approximately 27 wooden (dummy) weapons and other war-like materials. Security forces initiated the operation based on credible intelligence reports confirming the existence of UKNA hideouts in the area. However, as the troops advanced toward their objectives, the militants managed to escape, leaving behind their makeshift shelters and contraband goods.
Lasting about seven hours, this operation was part of a sustained campaign over the past 48 hours aimed at curbing insurgent activities in the region. Following the successful mission, the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Headquarters confirmed the outcome in a release. “The operation highlights the sincere efforts by the security forces in ensuring that peace and normalcy are brought back as soon as possible,” the release stated.
