Indian Army Organizes Lt Col Robert T.A. Memorial Badminton Tournament in Senapati

Senapati, Sept 22:   The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Senapati District Badminton Association and as part Operation Sadbhavana, will hold the third Lt Col Robert T.A. Memorial Badminton Tournament. The event is scheduled for September 23 to 27, at the Rikhumai Indoor Badminton Hall in Senapati district.

The event honors Lt Col Robert T.A., the first Maram Naga to be commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army’s Engineer Regiment in 2004. He lost his life on May 14, 2020, while leading a snow clearance operation in North Sikkim during an avalanche.

The tournament will include various categories such as singles, doubles, and mixed doubles for both men and women, with participants competing across different age groups, from under 11 to over 60. The aim is to promote sportsmanship, fitness, and community spirit among the people of Senapati district.

The opening ceremony, set for September 23, will be attended by Mrs. Chingpai Rangnamei, the wife of the late Lt Col Robert, along with senior Indian Army officers and dignitaries. The event will also feature cultural performances, a parade of participants, and a series of badminton matches, aiming to inspire local youth and residents to engage in fitness and sports.
