NEW DELHI, March 19: Microsoft’s former CEO Bill Gates praised India’s advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), stating that the country’s leadership in the field will drive worldwide innovation. Gates, speaking at the “Future Forward” event, a platform that gathers global industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and changemakers to foster collaboration, expressed his admiration for India’s progress, particularly in digital public infrastructure (DPI).
He highlighted that India’s leadership in AI would not only have a significant impact on global innovation but would also position the country as a driving force in technological progress. Gates revealed that he recently had discussions with Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw to ensure India’s participation in the upcoming AI Summit. He emphasized that the summit would provide an excellent opportunity for countries, especially those from the Global South, to benefit from India’s advancements in AI.
Gates further explained that AI holds vast potential in transforming various sectors such as mRNA vaccines, agriculture, and combating malnutrition. He pointed out that gathering and analyzing data using AI would allow for targeted interventions and help eliminate barriers to progress.
The Gates Foundation Chairman also praised India’s capabilities in developing affordable and high-quality vaccines, noting the crucial role that Indian companies like Serum Institute, Bharat Biotech, and IRI have played in ensuring vaccines are accessible globally. He stressed that without India’s innovations, vaccines would not be as affordable or widely available.
In his remarks, Gates emphasized that India’s continued investments in digital infrastructure, health, and education are ensuring its position as a transformative force on the global stage. He expressed optimism about India’s future, stating that the country’s progress would inspire innovation and change worldwide.
India’s leadership in AI, along with its key contributions in health and technology, is positioning the nation to be a central player in shaping future global advancements, Gates concluded.
