CHURACHANDPUR, June 21: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has officially called off the indefinite total shutdown in Churachandpur district, following an amicable settlement with the District Administration regarding the tragic death of (Late) Hoikholhing Haokip, wife of the chief of Langchingmanbi Village.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the ITLF’s Department of Information and Publicity, stating that the resolution was reached at the ITLF Office in Tuibong in accordance with Tribal Customary Law. The shutdown, which had paralyzed normal life across the district, was initially imposed to protest the killing of the village chief wife.
The ITLF confirmed that the mortal remains of (Late) Hoikholhing Haokip will now be laid to rest at the Martyr Cemetery in Sehken, signifying a move toward closure following days of public unrest.
In its statement, the forum expressed deep gratitude to the women’s groups and the general public for their unwavering support in the fight for justice. It also acknowledged the collective community effort in pursuing accountability and healing in the wake of the tragedy.
Calling the resolution a step toward peace and reconciliation, the ITLF emphasized its continued commitment to protecting tribal rights and ensuring justice through peaceful means.
