IMPHAL, March 22: On March 21, 2025, a day after the apex body of the Meitei community in Jiribam district accused a local MLA of supplying weapons to miscreants, the legislator strongly denied the allegation and called it “unfortunate.”
Md Achab Uddin, the MLA representing Jiribam, stated that the charges were false and expressed his disappointment, asserting that he has always worked for the welfare of the people of Jiribam, irrespective of their religion or ethnicity.
The accusation was made by the Jiri Apunba Lup (JAL) organization, which also issued a clarification later in the day stating that the allegation was not associated with the organization’s executive bodies. The MLA further clarified that he had filed a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur regarding the allegation.
The JAL statement on Thursday had claimed that the MLA had been organizing meetings and providing financial support and war gear to miscreants. However, in their clarification on Friday, the organization distanced itself from the statement and called for peace and harmony in Jiribam district.
