Imphal, July 17: Jiribam Municipal Council has been conferred with the prestigious “Most Promising Town” award at the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25, held in New Delhi. The award ceremony, attended by President Droupadi Murmu and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, recognized Jiribam’s outstanding performance in urban sanitation and cleanliness.
Among 27 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Manipur, Jiribam ranked first among 21 small towns (population below 20,000) in the North Eastern Region and secured 174th position nationally out of 2,035 towns in the same category. The town has also achieved ODF++ (Open Defecation Free) status and holds a 3-Star ‘Garbage Free City’ (GFC) certification, affirming its commitment to sustainable waste management.
A delegation led by RK Dinesh Singh, Principal Secretary of the MAHUD Department, accompanied by Director Ngangom Uttam Singh, Jiribam Municipal Council Chairperson S. Shanti Devi, and Executive Officer Moirangthem Surjit, received the award on behalf of the state. The team also participated in a strategic brainstorming session with the Union Minister and representatives from other states to assess progress on Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) and explore new strategies in urban development.
The Directorate of MAHUD congratulated the residents of Jiribam on this national achievement and pledged to replicate the model of success across other urban centres in Manipur.
