IMPHAL, June 14: The Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal has announced the resumption of its healthcare and academic operations starting June 16, 2025. This follows a two-week suspension caused by extensive flooding across the campus beginning June 2.

In a statement released on Saturday, JNIMS authorities confirmed that emergency medical services, including emergency surgeries, will restart immediately upon reopening. Routine surgeries and other standard hospital operations are expected to resume progressively as restoration efforts continue.

The flooding, which inundated the entire JNIMS premises, had brought all clinical and academic activities to a halt. The disruption impacted not only critical medical services but also the education schedules of MBBS, BDS, and postgraduate trainees.

Academic sessions will resume concurrently with the healthcare services, reinstating regular classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. The administration expressed confidence in returning to full functionality soon and extended gratitude to staff, students, and support teams for their resilience during the crisis.

“Routine OT (operation theatre) services will be reintroduced gradually as systems are restored,” the statement said, highlighting the institution’s ongoing commitment to providing essential medical care.

As one of Manipur’s premier healthcare and medical education institutions, JNIMS plays a crucial role in the region.
