Joint Operation Destroys Illegal Poppy Cultivation in Manipur’s Noney and Kangpokpi Districts

IMPHAL, Feb 1: A coordinated effort by the Manipur Police, Forest Department, and other authorities on January 31 resulted in the destruction of illegal poppy cultivation in two separate locations across the state.

In the Noney District, a joint team conducted a poppy cultivation destruction drive at the hill range of Nurathel Village under the jurisdiction of Noney Police Station. Approximately 4.49 acres of illegal poppy fields were uprooted during the operation. An FIR has been filed, and further investigations are underway.

Simultaneously, another joint team, which included Manipur Police, Central Forces, Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate, carried out a similar drive at Lhungjang Village, located in the hill range under the Saikul Police Station area of Kangpokpi District. This operation proved more extensive, with around 45 acres of poppy cultivation being destroyed. An FIR have been registered for further investigation.
