Imphal, August 27: In a bid to curb rampant encroachments and unauthorized constructions along National Highway-2, Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, has directed strict action against illegal structures within the district’s jurisdiction.
A joint inspection drive was conducted on Wednesday with officials from the ADM, SDO, SDC, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), SH-ADC, and state police. The team surveyed Kangpokpi town, T. Khullen, Yaikongpao, and Daili, identifying unauthorized shops, extensions, accommodations, and tin sheds built without approval.

The district administration has issued September 3 as the final deadline for owners to voluntarily dismantle such structures. Post-deadline, eviction and demolition will be carried out by the administration at the owners’ expense.
The order follows an earlier August 13 notice and repeated reports from NHIDCL regarding unsafe encroachments along NH-2. Officials emphasized that the drive is aimed at ensuring public safety, smooth traffic flow, and long-term infrastructure protection.
