IMPHAL, Dec 11: Kuki civil societies based in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district have jointly resolved not to participate in welcoming programme of President Droupadi Murmu in Senapati district on Friday.
In a statement, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills said “All civil society organisation Sadar Hills expresses deep disatisfaction and disappointment over the proposed visit of President of India to Senapati district headquarters while completely neglecting the conflict affected Kuki Zo people in Kangpokpi district.”
The apex body of Kangpokpi district continued that “the proposed visit makes no mention of meeting, assessing, or acknowledging the suffering and humanitarian distress of Kuki Zo IDPs in the district.”
Stating it has caused “widespread pain and dismay among the displaced people and civil society organisations working for their welfare” the body said “civil society organisations of Kangpokpi district under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills have jointly resolved to abstain from participating in the welcoming programme of the president.”
It also reiterated to government of India to recognise the prolonged sufferings of the Kuki Zo people, address humanitarian crisis urgently.
