BOKAJAN, Nov 22: In a major crackdown, Khatkhati police in Karbi Anglong district seized a large consignment of opium during a routine naka checking operation on National Highway 39.
Acting under the instructions of Bokajan SDPO Rustam Raj Brahma and led by Khatkhati Police Station in-charge Nitul Saikia, the team intercepted a truck carrying 50.20 kg of opium concealed in a secret chamber.
The operation took place when the police flagged down a truck (registration number AS 01 RC 3587) traveling from Dimapur to Guwahati. Upon inspection, the police discovered 48 packets of opium hidden in a specially built secret compartment located in the upper part of the truck’s cabin.
The truck driver, identified as Gokul Podal, son of Bishnu Lal Podal from Senapati, Manipur, was arrested on the spot.
The seized opium has an estimated market value of ₹2.50 crores, marking this as a significant success in combating the illegal drug trade in the region.
