SENAPATI, April 7: The Khongdei (Dumai) Union has appealed to Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, seeking urgent intervention to expedite the completion of the long-pending Senapati to Phaibung Road (SP Road) construction project. The Union emphasized that the early completion of this vital project is crucial for public welfare and regional development.
According to the press release, signed by M. Topson, Chairman, and K. Jonah, Secretary, of the Khongdei (Dumai/Khudaime) Union, the SP Road project was was sanctioned under a special developmental package by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India vide No. 11/2/2001-NFSC (Vol-Il), dated 01 November 2001, with the noble aim of enhancing connectivity in the most backward and remote areas between Senapati and Ukhrul districts. The project, funded in the ratio of 90% by the Central Government and 10% by the State Government, was entrusted to the 25 BRTF as the executing agency.
The Union earnestly urged the Governor to ensure that the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) be allowed to complete the remaining portion of the road without transferring the responsibility to the Public Works Department (PWD) or any other contractors. It stressed that the continuity of BRTF in the project is vital to maintaining the efficiency and quality of the road construction.
The Union further appealed that no politician, government official, or individual should interfere with or obstruct the ongoing development work for personal or political interests. It stated that such interference hampers the progress of the project and adversely impacts the well-being of the entire community.
At the same time, the Khongdei Union expressed its sincere appreciation to the SP Road Committee for their relentless efforts and unwavering commitment toward the successful completion of the road project. The Union acknowledged the dedication and public spirit demonstrated by the committee, calling it deeply commendable.
